RON MUECK (b. 1958) IS A HYPER-REAL SCULPTOR FROM AUSTRALIA NOW LIVING IN LONDON. His work can create an alarming reaction to viewers because of what he does with scale. When you look at photos of his studio (all © photographer Gautier Deblonde) you will see that what he does is extremely labor intensive.

Mueck started his career as in London where he was a model-maker for children’s television and films, including the amazing film
Labyrinth. His first work which captured the attention of collector’s and the fine art world was Dead Dad, a sculpture of Mueck’s father. In that piece he used his own hair for the piece which was smaller in scale that life size.

  1. I saw Ron's exhibit at the Modern Art Museum of Ft. Worth. He has had a piece in this collection since it opened. Blows me away how real they are. WOW WOW!

  4. See these in person! I also saw them at the Modern in Fort Worth and were just in awe. The smaller ones are creepier and more interesting than the larger ones I think.

  5. I saw this artists work in the "sensation" exhibition in Brooklyn, it was really amazing. You have to see it to believe it.

  6. Amazing!

Thank you for this introduction to an amazing artist. The juxtaposition of the pieces and the spectators just add to the power and oddness.

  7. This man's work is incredible. So unsettling. Incidentally, when I dream about babies, they are always abnormally large or abnormally small (as in the size of a single bit of milkweed fluff). Have I said too much?
